Heart-Shaped Chocolate Layer Cake with Vanilla Buttercream filling and Blue Ombré Vanilla Buttercream in Modified Chevron Pattern
Today is our 27th wedding anniversary and I baked a cake for my life partner.
This unconventional courtship began in 1986...I was calling my sister on a pay phone (she lived in a co-ed barracks) and a man with a very sexy sound answered. Talking to him was far more interesting than talking to my sister ... 20 minutes later we finally hung up. The next day my sister called me, "What did you say to my boss?!"
Our relationship developed by telephone, handwritten letters, and Hallmark cards. When we finally met...we were engaged to be married seven days later. My dude proposed while in a fever, so I asked him to ask me again the next morning.
The day we married was one of the very best days of my life - I am so glad we both took a chance on us. Despite all the ups and downs...smooth sailing and rough patches...plus the occasional rut - I've not regretted marrying him. No matter what else, I have always loved my life partner. Sure, there were times I didn't like some of his actions (or mine), but the love has been a constant thread upon which I cling.
My love letter ...
My dearest John,
I am so grateful for our life together. Your generosity with time and love for me fills my soul with great joy and contentment. Waking up each morning next to you gives me courage to start the day. I am frequently self-assessing to make sure we don't get too enmeshed or codependent; I recognize your introvert tendencies and support your time to recharge on your own.
I love when we get to travel and explore new places and cultures.
I love when we go for walks, we still hold hands.
I love that you cook an egg for me each morning.
I love when we laugh at each other.
I love it when you put your arm around me when we're watching television.
You developed from husband to life partner...since you are so much more than a narrowly defined role. When you support my decisions, I feel free to take risks because I know I won't travel an unknown road by myself.
Twenty-seven more years sounds doable to me.
Time and all eternity.
Time and all eternity.
I love you. I always have.
Beautiful cake and beautiful post! Congratulations!
